We’re so excited to announce the HashtagJeff Mentor Program. We know that it will greatly enhance the experience in the community and that it will build relationships and knowledge across the board.
What Is It?
So what is the Mentor program?
We envision a few members of our community taking on a mentor role within our Facebook Group. That means if you are chosen as a mentor you would help answer questions, encourage discussion, and even be a voice for the community in making things more valuable for everyone.
There will be plenty of benefits for mentors as well. We’ll get to those in a second…
Who Would Be A Good Mentor?
So does that mean we are only looking for experts that have done SEO for years? ABSOLUTELY NOT! We are looking for YOU.
To make the experience in our community as rounded as possible, we’d love to have mentors from many different areas. Different blogging types and communities, different experience levels, different passions.
Let’s say you are passionate about Keywords, but you just started blogging 4 months ago. Apply! What if you have been doing SEO for years, and feel you have a grasp on most of it? Apply! What if you have been tinkering with SEO for a year or two, but have the drive to learn and understand and want to know more. Apply!
The way we see it, we are looking for people with these qualifications:
- Motivated – Are you self-motivated and excited about SEO? I mean, sure, it can still frustrate you and piss you off.
- Committed – Are you willing to commit to answering questions, having discussions, researching with us if you don’t know the answer immediately?
- Inquisitive – Are you willing to say you don’t know, but find out so you can help your fellow members? Do you ask a lot of questions? Are you willing to discuss and strengthen the community?
- Problem Solver – Do you look at a problem like a challenge to be completed? Do you find answers and search for solutions that may not be immediately visible?
- Passion – Do you excel in something? Is there something you are passionate about that may resonate with our community? Is there an aspect(s) of SEO that you get excited about?
- Willing to Teach/Share – Are you willing to share examples from your own SEO path and experience? Are you willing to help teach and problem-solve with your peers?
If any of that sounds like you, we want you to apply!
We’re looking to select a rounded group of mentors that come from differing backgrounds and have different experiences to share. That means even if you tend to be on the more quiet side or are a little more reserved, you should still apply. There will be many ways to work within this mentorship program, and we need all personality types!
So all of that sounds like something you would love? Let’s talk about the benefits our mentors will receive. They’re pretty awesome if we do say so ourselves.
Direct Access – We will be setting up a Slack channel for us to interact with Mentors 1-on-1 regularly. Ask questions, discuss away, ask for help on a post or question, get help with a problem you are having on your blog…we plan to do it all!
Don’t know what Slack is? That’s ok, it’s awesome! Learn here.
Video Conferences – We will be training, discussing, etc with hands-on webinars for our mentors.
Exclusive Updates – We’ll let you peek behind the curtain a little bit because the conversation will be a little smaller and more controlled, so we won’t have to be as cautious about early updates and information being taken out of context. Be in the know!
Test Products & Services – We have a lot in store for 2020 and our mentors will be part of our test group. Audits, data, tools, oh my!
Mini Audit – We will perform a mini audit for each mentor’s site. We’re saying “mini” so we don’t over-promise, but it’s going to be so much more than that if we all work together on this!
Course Access – Want free course access? Become a mentor and your course is on us.
Much Much More… – This program is brand new and we have no idea where it could go. We’ll learn together as we go. But we have so much that we could do, we just need to get started and see what we’re able to accomplish.
How To Apply
Are you excited yet? We are! Here’s how to apply.
1. Let us know you’re interested!
We have a form for you to fill out to show us that you’re interested and to tell us a little bit about you.Apply Here!
We need this completed by December 20th. We know it is the holidays, but at least let us know that you are interested. It’s a quick form, I promise!
2. Teach me about SEO.
Write a blog post teaching someone how to do SEO as a blogger. Don’t worry, I’m not looking for anything too crazy here, I just want to get an idea for what you know and how you teach.
Don’t know something? That’s ok, share what you do know and identify what might be important to learn more about or where to start digging for that information. We really just want to get a feel for you and how you might mentor.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- What is SEO? What are some SEO fundamentals?
- On-page optimization – meta titles, descriptions, Yoast, content optimizations, images, etc.
- Off-page optimization – what can you do to improve your SEO when the content is great?
- Structured data – what is it and why is it important?
- Keyword research
Get creative with this and don’t be afraid to think outside the box. We’re not looking for super-advanced SEO here, we just want to see that you have some drive and personality to be part of something great here.
Deadline: January 6, 2020
Again, we know it’s the holidays, but we’re confident that it will be worth it for those that participate.Just Apply Already!
How many mentors will be chosen?
This is something we are jumping into with both feet. We don’t know where this will be going, because we’re putting a lot of this in the hands of the community. To start out, we are planning on 5 or 6 mentors. But we’re keeping that door open a little bit in case we can’t narrow it down to that many.
How long will mentors be a mentor?
Again, this is new territory for us. We’d love to have a cycle of some sort so we can bring on new mentors so the community benefits from different experiences and viewpoints. Right now, the plan is to have mentors for at least 6 months. We plan on working with mentors and the community to help us figure out what will be best though.
What if I’m not chosen?
We all have a fear of failure, I get it. But please apply if you are even slightly interested. Our selection process will be about diversity and finding mentors that are able to help in many different ways. So it’s not just going to be about the most advanced members out there.
Also, we plan on keeping track of everyone that applies for this because we would love to add more mentors if this is successful. So even if you aren’t part of the initial selection, it’s very possible that you may get added later or when we decide to cycle mentors around (or wherever this thing goes).
If you show that you’re hungry, your effort won’t be wasted here. I promise!
